Construction Process - August 12, 2001

The following pictures were taking the weekend of August 9-13, 2001.   For Bailey and Ben, this was their first visit since we broke ground.   The main purpose of this trip was to install the masonry heater core.   Gary and the crew also completed the kitchen deck while we were in the area.

Nick and I camped the first night.   Here are two early morning shots of the area.

Here is the foundation for the masonry heater.

Since the semi truck that delivered the masonry heater couldn't drive up the hill, we had to unload at Evergreen Station and make 3 trips with both the truck and the van.   In the process of unloading, loading and stacking, we handled the 35 components - weighing a total of 2600 pounds - SIX TIMES.   That is 15,600 pounds!   Unloading is a family affair, everybody gets in on the action.

Mike and Jonathan assemble the heater core.

The finished core.  The core will be covered with a river rock masonry facing.

Gary and the crew work on the kitchen deck.
