HAYMAN FIRE UPDATE
June 25, 2002

The Hayman fire started on June 8, 2002 approximately 12 miles north of GWR.  The prevailing winds carried the fire mostly north and east of the ignition point, sparing our area.  As of June 25, 2002, the fire was mostly contained, but not before becoming Colorado's worst forest fire ever.  Our thoughts and prayers are with the families who suffered losses as a result of this devastating event.  The area is incredibly dry and there is a high risk of additional fires.  Here is a link to the Hayman fire website, and below are personal pictures taken in the area during the fire (nothing dramatic).

Above - The smoke on the horizon, from the front deck of the cabin.  This was generally a clear day - the smoke and haze you see here is from the Hayman fire.

The pics below were taken from highway 67 north of Woodland Park on July 8, 2002.
