Assembly
The assembly process began
on Wednesday June 27, 2001. Understand
that the “road” to the building site is steep and winding. The good news is that we did get the first
truck up the mountain. The bad news is
that it took a bulldozer, a crane, and 4 hours. The other bad news is there are two more trucks, each of which is
more heavily loaded with 20,000 to 25,000 additional pounds of logs.
Here are a few pictures from
the Day 1:
This was the first nasty
switch-back. The steep grade is not
evident from the photo. The bulldozer
had to pull the semi op the grade. The
crane had to lift the back of the trailer around the corner. A scary operation.

Next is another hair-pin
turn. We made it around this one
without the crane, but did require the bulldozer to tow the truck up the road
on the left.

Bruce Jackson is the truck
driver that brought the first load up the mountain. Thanks Bruce!

Here is the set-up at the
building site. The truck is parked on right,
the crane up above, and the cabin on the left.

A log is placed on the
kitchen wall. Gary and crew work to
place the monster log. Grandpa McIntosh
snaps a photo (left side).

Jim Mardinly steers one of
the posts as the crane lifts it.

Lastly, since there was no
room to turn around, we had to pick-up the trailer with the crane and do a
pivot. Another interesting
operation. Larry, the crane operator
was a true master.
