Logs - Day Five
The logs are set!
It took until roughly 1:00 PM, but we finished the logs today.
There were just a handful of logs to be set, but it included several complex
sets including the ridge beams and the valley logs.
Some additional tweaking will be required - it appears the east-west purlins were off about 1 1/2 inches.
Following an ancient tradition, a pine sprig was placed on the highest point on the cabin.
We won't discuss the method used to access the high-point.
Here are a series of pictures showing the crew assembling the roof system.
The first is Gary, waiting for the main ridge beam (a 52 foot log).
He looks pretty relaxed for being near the top of a fully extended 32 foot ladder
Here is Neil making his way to a new position within the roof structure.
Wayne and Neil fit one of the valley logs.
Henry Wells, master log cabin builder.
The full picture, with nearly all the logs in place.
From a distance, with all the neighbors: trees.
Next is another shot of the fabulous posts - can't wait to see how these turn out.
