Pictorial History

First is a shot of the site after the trees were removed from the building location.

On April 3, 2001, we hit water at 95 feet at a flow of 6 gallons per minute.  This is quite remarkable given the fact that we are located on a high ridge.  Furthermore, the well 1000 feet away and 300 below our elevation had to drill more than 700 feet.  Don Ankrum was the “water witch” that found the spot.  He said we’d find plenty of water and not too deep.  Was he ever right!  (Thanks Don!)

Here is Scott on the rig from Rocky Mountain Pump and Drilling with the beautiful spray.

On April 23, 2001, we broke ground. Jerry Miller is handling all the excavation work.  He works magic with his backhoe and bucket.  It was as if the machine was an extension of his hands.  Very precise.  Fortunately, the soil is decomposed granite as far down as we need to excavate.  This simplifies the digging and produces excellent fill for the parking area and for the road back to the well location (the new road is evident in the second shot).  In the pictures below, Jerry works his machinery while Henry observes.

May 2, 2001 the footings are poured.  Turns out, the man helping Henry with the footings was a minister at the Grand Island, Nebraska Church of the Nazarene.  He knew Barb’s grandma and grandpa Briener very well.  It is a small world.

The next shots are of OUR CABIN, taken at the yard at Pacific Log Homes in 100 Mile Station, British Columbia, Canada

The first is looking through the front door towards the arch to the bedrooms.

The next shot is of the west exterior side.  The front entrance is on the left.

Next is a picture looking through the lower level bedrooms.  Arch to great room is on the left.

The next shot is of the east (left in photo) and north (right in photo) walls.

Here is a shot from May 18, 2001.  The day we poured the basement walls.  Henry and Rocky star.

Here are two shot from well above the building site.  Same location, different days (and lighting, as you will note).

STAY TUNED, MORE TO COME…….
